To convert VTT to SRT, drop your .vtt file into the converter above and click Download .srt. It is free, needs no signup, and your file never leaves your device.

How it works

    Add your VTT file

Drop the .vtt file onto the box, choose it from your device, or paste its text.

    Check the SRT

The SRT version appears on the right, with every subtitle numbered.

  3. Step 3

    Download the .srt

You get a file with the same name ending in .srt.

  4. Step 4

    Use it

Import it into Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut, or upload it to YouTube, Facebook or LinkedIn.

What changes when you convert VTT to SRT

  • The WEBVTT header and any NOTE, STYLE and REGION blocks are removed. SRT has no header.
  • Each subtitle gets a number, starting from 1. Any VTT cue names are dropped.
  • Timings change from 00:00:01.000 to 00:00:01,000, and short VTT timings like 01:02.500 get their hours added.
  • Position and alignment settings (such as align:start or line:0) are removed, because SRT can’t store them.
  • Bold, italic and underline are kept. Speaker tags from Teams or Zoom transcripts become “Name: ” at the start of the line.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a VTT file to SRT?

Drop the .vtt file into the converter at the top of this page, or paste its contents. The SRT version appears straight away. Click Download .srt to save it.

Is this VTT to SRT converter free?

Yes. It is free with no signup, no watermark and no limit on how many files you convert.

Is my subtitle file uploaded anywhere?

No. Your browser reads the file and converts it on your device. Nothing is sent to a server, so it works for private or unreleased work too.

Will I lose anything converting VTT to SRT?

Your text and timings carry over exactly. SRT can’t store VTT’s position and alignment settings or CSS styles, so those are removed, and every subtitle shows in the player’s default position. Bold, italic and underline are kept.

Can I convert a Zoom or Teams transcript to SRT?

Yes. Zoom and Microsoft Teams save transcripts as .vtt files. Drop one in and the converter keeps each speaker’s name at the start of their line.

Why would I need SRT instead of VTT?

Many video editors and social platforms ask for SRT. Facebook and LinkedIn take SRT caption files, and SRT is the format most editing apps import. YouTube and Vimeo accept both.

I don't have a subtitle file yet. Can you make one?

Yes. Upload your video to AutoSubtitles and it writes the subtitles for you from the speech, with timings. You can fix any word, then burn styled captions into the video for free, or download SRT, VTT and TXT files with Pro ($9/month).
