- Step 4
Use it
Use it for meeting notes, show notes, a blog post or a document you can search.
What changes when you convert VTT to TXT
- The WEBVTT header, NOTE and STYLE blocks, cue names and timestamps are removed.
- Tags like <c> and <i> are removed, and codes like & become the characters they stand for.
- Speaker tags from Zoom and Teams transcripts become “Name: ” at the start of the line, so you still know who said what.
- Each subtitle becomes one line, in the same order as the video.

Frequently asked questions
- How do I convert a VTT file to text?
Drop the .vtt file into the converter at the top of this page. The plain text appears straight away, with no timestamps. Click Download .txt or Copy.
- How do I turn a Zoom or Teams transcript into plain text?
Zoom and Microsoft Teams save transcripts as .vtt files. Drop the file in and download the TXT. Each line keeps the speaker’s name, so you can see who said what.
- Is this VTT to TXT converter free?
Yes. It is free with no signup and no limit on how many files you convert.
- Is my subtitle file uploaded anywhere?
No. Your browser reads the file and converts it on your device. Nothing is sent to a server, so it works for private or unreleased work too.
- Can I turn the TXT back into a VTT?
Not from the text alone, because a TXT file has no timings. Keep your original VTT if you need subtitles again.
- I don't have a subtitle file yet. Can you make one?
Yes. Upload your video to AutoSubtitles and it writes the subtitles for you from the speech, with timings. You can fix any word, then burn styled captions into the video for free, or download SRT, VTT and TXT files with Pro ($9/month).
