Getting Started
AutoSubtitles lets you add subtitles to any video directly in your browser. No signup, no install.
Upload Your Video
Open autosubtitles.com, click New Video, then choose Auto Detect or select your language. Drag your video file onto the page, or click to browse. Supported formats include MP4, MOV, WebM, and most common video formats.
Your video is processed locally in your browser — it never leaves your device.
Generate Subtitles
Subtitles are generated automatically as soon as your video is uploaded. Only the audio track is sent to our transcription service, and it's deleted immediately after processing.
Transcription usually takes a few seconds, depending on the length of your video.
Edit Subtitles
Once subtitles are generated, you can:
- Edit text — Click any subtitle to fix words or rephrase
- Adjust timing — Drag subtitle boundaries on the timeline or edit timestamps directly
- Split or merge — Break long subtitles into shorter ones, or combine adjacent ones
- Add or delete — Add new subtitles manually or remove unwanted ones
Style Your Subtitles
Use the style panel to customize how your subtitles look:
- Font family and size
- Text color and outline
- Text shadow
- Background color and opacity
- Position on screen
- Animations
- Random rotate lines
- Auto emoji
Export
When you're happy with your subtitles, export your work:
- Video with burned-in subtitles — Download a video file with subtitles permanently rendered into the video
- SRT file (Pro) — Standard subtitle file compatible with most video players and platforms
- VTT file (Pro) — Web-friendly subtitle format
That's it! The whole process takes under a minute for most videos. For when to burn subtitles in and when to upload a file, and how to do it on YouTube, TikTok and Reels, see how to add subtitles to a video.
