Troubleshooting
Video Won't Load
- Check the format — Make sure your video is in a supported format (MP4, MOV, WebM). See supported formats for the full list.
- Try a different browser — Chrome and Edge generally have the best video format support. Safari may not support all codecs.
- File too large — Very large files may cause your browser to run out of memory. Try a shorter clip or lower resolution version.
Transcription Failed
- Check your internet connection — Transcription requires sending the audio track to our AI service.
- Audio quality — Very noisy audio, overlapping speakers, or heavily distorted audio may cause transcription to fail or produce poor results.
- Try again — Occasional network issues can cause failures. Simply try the transcription again.
Subtitles Are Inaccurate
AI transcription isn't perfect. You can improve accuracy by:
- Editing manually — Click any subtitle to fix words
- Clear audio helps — Record in a quiet environment when possible
- Language selection — Make sure the correct language is selected before transcribing
Export Is Slow
Video export is processed entirely on your device. Export speed depends on:
- Video length — Longer videos take longer to render
- Device performance — Faster CPUs and more RAM help
- Browser — Chrome generally offers the fastest rendering performance
If export seems stuck, check that your browser tab is in the foreground (some browsers throttle background tabs).
Exported Video Has A Lower Framerate Than The Original
This almost always means the source video is HEVC (H.265) — the codec used by iPhones for high-quality recording and most 4K cameras — and you're exporting in Firefox.
Because HEVC is patent-encumbered, Firefox doesn't expose a fast decoder to web apps. AutoSubtitles falls back to decoding via a hidden video element, which works reliably but is subject to Firefox's internal throttling of offscreen video. Audio, timestamps, and subtitles stay correct, but the output framerate can drop (e.g. a 60fps clip may export at around 24fps).
Fix: open your project in Chrome, Edge, or Safari and export again. Those browsers have a direct decoder path for HEVC and will export at the original framerate.
H.264 / AVC, VP9, and AV1 footage is not affected and exports at full framerate on every supported browser.
License Key Not Working
- Check for typos — Copy and paste the key rather than typing it manually
- Clear browser data — If you previously had a different key, try clearing AutoSubtitles data from your browser
